The League of Friends was formed in1967 under the chairmanship of Mr Richard (“Dick”) Thompson in order to promote organised fund-raising. In fact The League of Friends has received such good financial support from individuals and businesses that regular capital improvements have taken place, which include: 

 1969: Our first Physiotherapy Unit completed.  Opened by William Deedes. 

 1973:  Matron’s bungalow constructed.

 1974:  Our first Day Room built; opened by Patrick Mayhew.

 1978:  A new, large Day Centre was opened.

 1980:  Existing Physiotherapy Department was enlarged

 1982:  Physiotherapy Department further extended .

 1988:  More improvements: Bathrooms, Kitchen and a new ward.

 2003:  The Opening of a new Wing – another Ward and a Day Unit.
